Increasing Productivity of Your Employees

Friday November 29th is Black Friday and officially kicked off the start of the holiday season! Along with all of the holiday cheer, the holidays can also be a stressful and busy time for your employees. This can lead to distractions at work and lower productivity in general. So how can you help your workers increase productivity without seeming like the grinch. In the article we are going to list three ways to help.

Reduce Distractions:

In an office setting one of the biggest time wasters and productivity killers is social media. One study found the 51% of employee time on social media at work is spent checking intermittently throughout the day and on bathroom breaks. The majority of users say they use the apps as a mental break from the stresses of work. Between Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and other sites employees have more ways than ever to connect with friends, family and even professional connections. It is important not put an outright ban on these apps and websites as it can be damaging to morale and create division between management and staff. However, having a formal talk about with all your employees about limiting social media times to breaks and lunches can be an effective way of setting limits. Be positive and encouraging with employees when dealing with these sorts of issues to create a sense of teamwork and cohesion

Implement Flexible Work Flow:

A standard eight hour work day usually gets split up by two fifteen minute breaks and a half hour lunch style work flow. However there is a lot of research to suggest that this is not the most productive way to work. Encourage your workers to find a technique that suits their individual needs. Some methods have you work for 25 minutes then take a 5 minute break. This helps to break up the day and reduce mental fatigue. It also allows you to get up and walk around for a couple minutes which is also a know productivity increaser. The app DeskTime has studied the way the most efficient workers segment their day. For them working 52 minutes then taking a 17 minute break allows them to accomplish as much or more than their regular counterparts while also leading to better attitudes and contentment overall.

Set Them Up For Success

There is nothing more frustrating and time consuming for workers than working with less than ideal equipment. From old software, and worn out chairs to dull tools and old machinery, an employee is only as productive as his worst piece of equipment. So, what do you do if you find yourself in this particular pickle? Well, it may be time to purchase some new equipment.
